On July 16, 1913, 30-year-old Catherine Madelopodo of Blue Island Avenue died at Chicago's American Hospital from abortion complications.
Three men were arrested in connection with Catherine's death: Dr. Jack J. Moses of South Halstead Street, Dr. Paul Ackerman, an American Hospital intern, and Spiros Glanbadakis, owner of the hotel/coffee house where Catherine had lived.
